Answers

Question #1: Who is HVACRedu.net?
Answer: HVACRedu.net was started by a college professor in response to the need of the Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration industry. He currently teaches land and on-line courses in this field, as well as lab courses. We offer comprehensive HVACR education and training programs online in an asynchronous environment (anywhere, any time).  We currently have 25 faculty members and a strong administration focused on customer service and support of our students.

Question #2: Why do I need these courses?
Answer: Well, only you can answer that, however, here is our reasoning! It is estimated by the HVACR industry, that we are 60,000 technicians short in the U.S. today of meeting the current need. Since 1982 there has been a student enrollee decline of 71% in conventional programs for the HVACR industry. What does this translate to you ask? Basically it’s supply and demand. It is estimated that students with a certificate degree can earn a minimum of $25,000 and within a few years and with additional courses and experience, the sky is the limit. A Service Technician working with an HVACR company in Phoenix, Arizona, earned $142,000 last year using his sales and HVACR experience. It is totally up to you. What you put in, you will get out!

Question #3: Why the on-line delivery method of HVACR education?
Answer: This is the great part; you can study in you pajamas if you want! Seriously! However, we are not reinventing the wheel. The world is now becoming educated via the web and until now, there were NO HVACR courses on line. You won’t lose time at work to go to a class, or miss reading a story to your child at night because you must structure your time around "class time". On-line also means no travel.  Class time is whenever you say class time is. It can be at 2am or 10pm, class is open 24/7 365 days a year.

Question #4: How does the on-line education delivery method work?
Answer: Very well thank you! Once the completed registration form is received, our registrar will send the access needed to enter the course(s). You’re off to the start of a great career or enhancing your current career! The courses are offered asynchronously. This means, you can study at your own pace and at any time of the day or night. Spend as much time as needed on a certain page or subject. As with "land" courses, our courses are instructor led. Any questions for the faculty/mentor, just e-mail and you will have an answer within 24 hours.

Question #5: HVACRedu.net gives me, the student, the technical theory background; how do I get the "hands-on" experience?
Answer: For those students who are not currently employed in the HVACR field, we recommend contacting local employers for either employment or internships. This can also be done through secondary school counselors in the "School to Work" program, counselors in your State Labor/Unemployment Office through the "One Stop" employment program or Workforce Investment Act (WIA). Most employers are very excited to take on an individual who shows motivation in pursuit of an HVACR career! Trust us, we have heard it all! If for any reason, you are unable to find an employer for your hands-on experience, please feel free to contact us.

Question #6: What is a Competency List?
Answer: The Competency List is a list of tasks (hands-on skills) related to the course you are taking, that are optional complete. Certainly, we recommend this for your career benefit, but it is your choice.

Question #7: What is the course cost?
Answer: The cost varies among the various courses and programs we offer.  For a complete listing of our current prices please go to the HVACRedu.net store.  From there you can access most of the courses, programs and products we offer, complete with descriptions and pricing.  There are discounts available to some individual programs and groups.  Ask us about them and if there is something you had in mind but cannot locate, feel free to get a hold of us!  Contact our staff

Question #8: Okay, I have completed the course on-line and my employer/internship company has verified my competency sheets. What next?
Answer: You may want to keep your competency sheets for your own records. There is a final exam per course. This can be taken on-line at your convenience. It is not proctored. It is to your benefit, and only yours, to study and take the exam on your own. The passing grade per course is 75%. This will NOT take into account your hands-on experience. The Competency List is optional and not associated with the final grade. Upon successful completion (75% or higher) a certificate is mailed to the student.  Be sure your information is accurate and up to date when you begin your course and throughout the duration of your studies.

Question #9: I am ready for the ICE (Industry Competency Exam) offered through ARI (Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Institute) or the NATE (North American Technician Excellence) Core Exam. How will this work.
Answer: First, let us at HVACRedu.net congratulate you on your achievement.  You will receive the course completion Certificates via "snail" mail (regular postal mail). Be certain we have your mailing address. Next, these exams are offered by their respective organizations. ARI and NATE require that these exams be proctored by either a local Community College, vocational school or an approved local testing site. Contact ARI at www.ahrinet.org or NATE at www.natex.org/ and the organization will advise you where to take the exam.

Question #10: What if I am not interested in being "certified" or going through the entire program. Can I take any course that appeals to me or meets my specific needs?
Answer: Come on down! We provide education to the technicians of the HVACR industry. We encourage certification but realize that everyone has his or her own training agenda. If we can provide all or part of that need, we are happy to do so.

Question #11: How long is each of the HVACR courses?
Answer: Each course is 60 days long. If, needed a one time extension can be purchased for addition time.  In addition, we have REVIEW Prep courses available.  Review courses have an access period of 30 days.

Question #12: Will all lessons, tutorials, demonstrations, reference materials, quizzes, and assignments be available when the course is released?
Answer: All of the course material will be available upon your acceptance into the course. If you are a student enrolled in a "class" with other students (collaborative enrollments option), the course modules are released over a timed period, typically one module per week.

Question #13: Will I need to purchase additional books?
Answer: For students who are only taking one or two courses, an additional text is not required but recommended. They are always a great reference and you will have it for future courses if you continue with the program. For students in a "Program" that is composed of multiple courses, the text is required. You may purchase the textbooks through our online bookstore @ HVACRedu.net store.

Question #14: What browser requirement and computer hardware requirement will I need?
Answer: Computers that support the following browsers are adequate. While high-speed Internet is recommended, you can still take courses online using the ol’ “dial-up” method.

  • Internet Explorer (v5.5 or later)
  • Firefox (all versions)
  • Sea Monkey (all versions)
  • Netscape (v7 or later)
  • Safari
  • Opera

Most computers purchased in the last 4-5 years have most of what is required. If you have any questions, please always feel free to e-mail us at info@HVACRedu.net

Question #15: Is the sample test on the HVACRedu.net site, an example of what to expect on the NATE exam?
Answer: We are providing education to bring technicians up to the NATE "Core" and "Installation" certification level starting from scratch. These courses plus at least one year of work experience in the trade will prepare an individual for the NATE and ICE exams. If you have the workplace experience and wish to do a "review course" to prepare for the NATE exam we can accommodate you for that as well.

Question #16: I realize the subscription length of the course is 60 days long. Can I complete the course at an accelerated pace?
Answer: Yes the course can be completed as fast as you wish to complete it. We have found that on the average it takes about 2.5 to 3.5 hours to move through one module and study well. That has been the experience of our past and current students. That means around 20 to 28 hours of study, to do it well. The 60 days in the self-paced course is to allow for some flexibility.

Question #17: What is your General Disclaimer
Answer: HVACRedu.net exercises no control whatsoever over the information and data passing through its facilities (including but not limited to the Service, World Wide Web domain, HVACRedu.net, Internet server and Internet backbone).

Question #18: What is your Money Back Policy?
Answer: If you are dissatisfied with a course or with any terms, conditions, rules, policies, guidelines, or practices of HVACRedu.net in operating the course, your sole and exclusive remedy is to discontinue taking the courses. We allow a refund while within the FIRST module of the course, if you find it unsatisfactory to your needs and development.
